Durham, NC
Trinity Lofts is the conversion of an abandoned tobacco barn in downtown Durham, NC into a community of high-tech lofts opening onto a pedestrian street. It was a transformative project for the downtown neighborhood in 2007, bringing people to live in area that had been left behind. The investment in Trinity Lofts started a series of adaptations and renovations in the area that led to a rezoning of the neighborhood into a full mixed use district. This was an early example of the power of a client to align policy, finance and design in order to succeed. The project was designed, financed and built in partnership with Barbara Wilks, FAIA FASLA of W Architecture.
