The Nature of Urban Design
Author and Chief Urban Designer, New York City Department of City Planning
The Nature of Urban Design is Washburn's seminal book on Urban Design. Written with a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation to describe the process of designing and building cities that are both sustainable and resilient, the book focuses on the lessons learned from being Chief Urban Designer of New York City at a time of great change: the High Line -- and great challenge: Hurricane Sandy. The book was on the New York Times Sunday Book Review: The Shortlist and was called "a cri de couer for action by cities."
